"I want a divorce!" Amanda outraged as she and her
husband Colin argued about their long distance relationship over
the phone.
"Why?" Colin asked.
"Hi," Steve said as he popped into Amanda’s
pathology lab.
"Colin, I’ll call you back later." Amanda slammed
the phone down, sat in her chair, and started to cry.
"Amanda," Steve said, "are you okay?"
"No!" Amanda sobbed.
Steve invited Amanda to lunch to talk things over with her.
Amanda hesitated at first, but then she decided to loosen up and
accept Steve’s invitation. After they ate lunch, they
decided to take a walk on the beach. Mark saw two people he
thought looked liked Amanda and Steve. He realized that was them
as they started to walk toward the beach house. Mark was rather
pleased to see what he was seeing. He had always hoped that Steve
would take interest in Amanda since he introduced them to each
other. When Amanda and Steve walked in holding hands and
laughing, a very big grin spread across Mark’s face. Steve
saw Mark grinning and asked him why he was so happy. Mark’s
response was, "Can’t a guy be happy once and a
while?"
Mark greeted Amanda with politeness and elegance. Mark asked them
if they would like to join Jesse and himself for dinner at BBQ
Bobs. Amanda said that she would be delighted. Steve said the
same. Later the four met up to have dinner.
"This place is packed!" Jesse yelled above all of the
voices in the restaurant.
After they all ordered, Mark realized that there was only one
table left. It had only two chairs. Mark suggested that Steve and
Amanda take the table and Jesse and himself would sit at the bar.
Amanda and Steve finished eating before Mark and Jesse, so Steve
asked Amanda if she wanted to go for a drive. Amanda immediately
said yes. After their drive Steve drove Amanda home. As he walked
her up to her door he was thinking of something pleasant to say.
Finally, he got the courage to say, "Is it just me, or do
you look remarkably beautiful tonight?"
Amanda slightly turned her head and said, "Is it just me, or
do you look more handsome than I have ever seen you?"
When they got to Amanda’s door Steve leaned toward Amanda
and gave her a good night kiss, but neither of them quite wanted
to let go. That same night as Steve walked into his father’s
beach house, Mark was sitting in the kitchen waiting up for him.
Mark inquired where Steve and Amanda had gone.
All Steve said was, "Out."
Then Mark said , "Uh huh."
Steve gave him a dirty look. The next morning while Steve was in
the shower, Mark walked by the bathroom and heard Steve singing,
"L is for the way you look at me. O is for the only one I
see. V is very, very extraordinary and E is even more than anyone
that you adore."
Mark just laughed, but then he realized that he referring to
Amanda. Later on that morning when Steve dropped by the hospital
to see Amanda, he found that she wasn’t there. She had taken
the day off to spend with CJ. Steve spent an hour trying to find
out where she was, but he finally was told that Mark gave her the
day off. He drove over to Amanda’s house finding her asleep
with CJ in her lap. He decided to come back later. He went back
to the beach house. Amanda dropped by to give Mark one of her
autopsy reports. When Steve saw Amanda’s Jeep in the
driveway, he rushed downstairs. When he caught up with her, he
asked her if he could come back to the hospital with her. There
was barley any conversation on the way there. When they got there
Steve followed Amanda into her lab.
"Is there anything else that I can do for you?" she
asked.
"Yeah, you can tell me if you are aware of what happened
between us last night." Steve blurted out.
"Excuse me?" Amanda retorted.
"You know exactly what I’m talking about." Steve
said.
Amanda just shook her head with a very confused look on her face.
There was silence.
Then Steve broke it when he said, "Maybe this will refresh
your memory." Then Steve kissed Amanda.
"Oh yeah." Amanda said.
"That’s all that you have to say is oh yeah? Amanda,
last night meant something to me. I like you, Amanda, I like you
a lot." Steve said with feeling.
"I like you too Steve, but that doesn’t mean that we
have to rush into things." Amanda said.
Steve knew that she was right. Jesse walked by and saw them
hugging, and he realized that this was no "it’s gonna
be okay" friend hug. It was a couple hug. Suddenly Jesse
felt very jealous. He wasn’t really sure why. Within the
next two days, the very true rumor spread around Community
General Hospital that Steve and Amanda were a couple.
Jesse was in the doctors’ lounge pouting and murmuring
"Amanda and Steve, Steve and Amanda." over and over
again until Amanda came in the room.
She didn’t even notice that Jesse was there. She was too
caught up in her thoughts about Steve. Then Jesse said hello to
Amanda, but she didn’t answer.
Then he yelled, "Oh get over yourself!" and stormed out
of the room. Amanda didn’t even notice that he was yelling
at her. Jesse walked into Mark’s office, and when he saw the
look on Jesse’s face he asked him what was wrong.
"Have you seen Amanda and Steve lately?" Jesse asked.
"Yeah, isn’t it wonderful?" Mark said gleaming.
"Uurrrrrgggggg!!!" Jesse growled as he walked out of
the office.
When Amanda was on her lunch break, she decided to go and get
something to eat. On her way there she was driving by the jewelry
shop and saw Steve inside holding a ring in his hand. Amanda
almost passed out. That night Steve and Amanda went out to
dinner. Afterwards they took a walk on the beach. Amanda got
tired and sat down in the sand. Steve sat down behind her and put
his arms around her. He could feel her heart beating rapidly.
"What’s wrong?" he asked.
Amanda looked at Steve. The moonlight beaming on her made it look
like she was an angel. At least Steve thought so.
"Nothing." Amanda whispered.
With her head leaning against Steve, Amanda mumbled something
that sounded like I love you. Steve wasn’t really sure if
that’s what she had said, but he hoped so because he loved
her. They had known each other for so long, and never did they
share a single romantic moment. It was a Saturday afternoon.
Steve was bored, so he called Amanda and CJ and asked if they
wanted to have lunch at the beach house. Amanda was thrilled.
After they ate CJ fell asleep, so Amanda asked Mark if he would
watch him while Steve and her went out. It was about 2:00 when
they left. They returned at about 6:00. After Amanda got CJ and
left the beach house, Mark could that Steve wanted to tell him
something.
" Dad, since Amanda and I have known each other for so long,
I have decided to ask her to marry me." Steve finally
blurted out.
"My son’s getting’ married! My son’s getting’
married!" Mark sang.
"SHHHHHHHH!!!" Steve exclaimed.
"When are you going to ask her?" Mark urged to know.
"I don’t know, but it will be very, very soon."
Steve replied.
Over the next few days Amanda started getting suspicious. Ever
since she saw that ring in Steve’s hand, she wondered who it
was for. One evening a few nights later, Steve made Amanda
dinner. Steve had made some brownies for dessert. He cut Amanda a
piece. She bit into it and noticed that there was something hard
in it. Knowing Steve’s cooking she didn’t think
anything about it. She started to choke. Steve gave her the
heimlich. The ring popped out of her mouth. After she caught her
breath, she leaned down and took a look at the ring. She thought
that it looked familiar.
Steve picked the ring up and got on one knee and said, "I
know that we have been dating for only three weeks, but Amanda
Bentley, will you marry me?"
Amanda was looking at him wide-eyed, and then finally managed to
say "YES."
Mark and Jesse were secretly sitting in the family room and saw
Amanda and Steve hugging and kissing. Mark immediately started to
yell for joy. Jesse started to yell as well because Mark was.
They ran out to the deck still yelling. Amanda and Steve started
to yell because Jesse and Mark were. When everybody was calm,
they all went inside. They all sat down. Jesse had gotten over
his jealous spell. Amanda had for gotten that the baby sitter she
hired for CJ was only going to stay at her house until 10:30.
Amanda rushed home and brought CJ back to the beach house with
her.
When the four got talking, Amanda remembered something. "I’m
not divorced from Colin yet." she said.
The next morning, she faxed the divorce papers over to Colin. The
engaged couple started to make plans for the wedding. They
decided to make it a summer wedding. They picked the church, sent
out the invitations, picked out their outfits, and they both
picked a cute ensemble for CJ. Two months later, it was the big
day.
Amanda kept repeating, "Amanda Sloan, I like it."
Steve told Jesse to smack him just to make sure that this was
real. Jesse did as Steve said.
"Ouch! Just making sure." Steve said.
The music started to play, and when Amanda walked down the aisle,
Steve almost passed out at the sight of her beauty. After they
took their vows, they were off too Hawaii for their honeymoon.
About a month after they returned, Amanda discovered that she and
Steve were expecting another child. A few months after that, they
found out that Amanda wasn’t having one child, but two! She
was having twins. About a year later, Amanda, Steve, CJ, and the
new additions to their family, Jasper and Maya, were living happy
and peaceful lives.
